Introducing Dachshund Mix Otto! Otto is 9 years old and weighs in at approximately 12 pounds. Otto is looking for a home where he can be the solo pet and have all the attention from his forever family. Otto does have some behaviors that his adoptive family will need to understand and work on together, but the love and companionship he will provide his forever family will be well worth it!
Otto requires a home without other pets. He can tolerate other dogs for short periods of time but is extremely possessive of his toys and his food, so he would not do well living with another dog. We believe he would not do well with cats either, just from observing his behavior around other dogs. Otto will also do best in a home that does not have small children. This little guy just wants to be the center of attention and get all the love and affection from his forever family!
Otto loves taking walks and does great on leash. He is completely house-trained and will let you know when he needs to go outside. We are unsure if Otto is crate-trained or not as he has never needed to be crated while in his foster home. He behaves well when left alone at home and given free roam of the house.
Otto does resource guard his food and his toys (particularly balls) so it is very important for his adopter to know that this will be an area they need to work on together. He is also a big barker so an apartment would not be the best fit for him. We do think some of his behavior may be linked to anxiety from being in a new place with new people, as he was in the same home with the same people for his entire life up until this point. Some of his behaviors may be related to being confused and anxious over the big change and may subside over time once he realizes he is safe and loved in his forever home.
Otto loves sleeping in the big bed with his foster parents and is hoping to find a home where his forever parents will let him cuddle up at night in their big bed too! He loves car rides, no matter if it’s a short or long trip. He does pretty well with meeting new people as long as they know to approach him slowly. He is afraid when people approach him too quickly or try to pick him up, but he is fine with slow pets from new people. When it comes to meeting new dogs, he will bark a lot so his foster family keeps him away from other dogs while in public.

Introducing Dachshund Mix Otto – 9 yrs, 12 lbs
Otto is a delightful and entertaining dog for the right person or couple who is willing to invest time and effort into working with him. Just, DON’T give him a BALL and please ask his permission before grabbing to pick him up. Other than that, he loves to love and cuddle! He’s a beautiful dog with a sweet spirit. A responsible pet owner who understands his needs is very important for his success. We know he is well worth the effort! Adoption fee $200
If you believe you could provide a safe and loving forever home for this dog, please fill out an application with the dogs’ name on it.
*Be advised, we have a couple of volunteers processing hundreds of applications. We are unable to call everyone back as we do not have ANY employees. Our dedicated volunteers and foster parents will check references of the applications that appear to be a good match. At that time, if you are chosen, we will contact you to arrange a home visit.
The adoption fee helps to cover costs, as each dog is fully vetted, and treated, as needed to prepare them to move forward in their new life. You pay no fee unless you are chosen to adopt.
