Adoptable Mix Sportacus – Low Rider Dachshund Rescue of Florida

Adoptable Mix Sportacus, aka “Sport” or “Sporty” is a survivor. He’s a lot of hero in a tiny package. Although he is now only 3 months old, Sportacus was found under a car with a injured paw. Sadly, it had become severely infected and neglected. Unfortunately, it was too far gone and caused this little guy to lose his back left leg.

There was no chance he was going to let that defeat him. He will be 4 months old 06/13 and no one can tell he only has 3 legs. He keeps up with his foster brother and sister with no problem. Being the “Sport” he is, he loves to play in the backyard and explore.

You aren’t seeing things. Sport is not exactly a dachshund. He’s a terrier pup who “wants to be” a dachshund. This baby needed our help to find a safe and loving home . . . . and now you know. Please don’t tell his he’s not a doxie!

Sport

Sportacus loves his toys and barks at them when he is playing. Look out for your shoes though, he loves to steal them when you’re not looking. He has been through a lot so at first he is very shy and timid but once he is comfortable look out he will steal your heart with his small kisses.

In public (like at PetSmart) he has been very shy and didn’t want his foster mom to put him down. It will take time for him to feel comfortable in such situations. He does not bark excessively or at strangers. He saves that for playtime!

This little sweetheart has enjoyed sleeping with his foster mom but is young enough that he could easily be trained to sleep in his own bed if needed. He is so very young and good natured, as long as a family with children understands his shy spirit and gives him room to feel comfortable, he should do fine with gentle kids. He is great with his foster dog friends but it is unknown as to how he would do with cats. Again, he’s very young, so a bit of training should take care of that.

He currently uses a doggie door during the day and pee pads at night, he holds it all night successfully. But it is likely, especially with another big change, that he will require further house training. Being on a good schedule will help if you don’t have a doggie door and fenced yard.

Vetting and Medical

This sweet pup has already been through a major infection, removal of his leg, and recovery. He has had puppy vaccines but will require a neuter at the time of the adopter’s vets choosing. Low Rider requires that it be within the year or a letter from the vet as to why it should be postponed. Sportacus is otherwise a healthy, happy puppy!

We depend on donations from caring people, like you, to make a difference in the lives of dogs. As an all volunteer organization, you can rest assured that the donations go directly to help the dogs. Thank you!

Most of all, this precious, three-legged, wonder dog is searching for a home where he will be safe and loved. Sportacus would love a gentle friend or two to play with and will make a great dog for a family or a couple. He simply wants to play and be loved! Adoption fee $350

If you believe you could provide a safe and loving forever home for this dog, please fill out an application with the dogs’ name on it.

*Be advised, we have a couple of volunteers processing hundreds of applications. We are unable to call everyone back as we do not have ANY employees. Our dedicated volunteers and foster parents will check references of the applications that appear to be a good match. At that time, if you are chosen, we will contact you to arrange a home visit.
