Meet Senior Dachshund Charley! Charley is 11 years old, weighs 17 pounds, and cannot wait to meet his forever family. He is the sweetest laid-back senior pup who will fill the days of his forever family with so much love and laughter with his antics. One minute Charley is sleeping the day away. The next thing you know he’s zipping through the house, running in and out of every room. He will keep his forever family amused for sure!

Charley does well with other small low energy pups, but would also do great as a solo pup. Charley is vision impaired, so he can get into other dogs’ personal space often without meaning to. He can also be a little snippy when it comes to food time if he feels threatened. If he were to be adopted to a home with another pup, it would be important to feed them seperately. Charley hasn’t been around bigger dogs too frequently, but he has done fine when being exposed to them on walks.

More About Charley
We aren’t sure how Charley would do around cats as he hasn’t been exposed to cats in his foster home. Charley does wonderfully with the child who lives in his foster home. He would do great with children who are respectful and understanding of dog boundaries and space.
Charley is house-trained, but he does need to go out every few couple of hours. He takes his time in the yard before doing his business, so patience is key with this little guy. In his foster home, they will leave a puppy pad down if they are leaving for more than a couple hours and he will use this sometimes or just hold it until they get home and let him out. We are unsure if Charley is crate-trained as a crate has never been needed in his foster home. He is a sweet, respectful little pup who does great when given free roam of the house.

Charley Loves His Dog Beds
Charley loves using the different dog beds around the house and prefers this over sharing a bed with his people. He is not a big fan of cuddling up to his humans on the couch or the big bed. He prefers to stay in his own space most of the time. Charley doesn’t mind a car ride and is a very good boy in the car. He doesn’t really enjoy a car ride and would much prefer just hanging out and galloping around in the yard.
Charley does well meeting new people, as long as they are respectful of his boundaries. He is not a fan of having his ears touched due to frequent ear infections he suffered. It’s important to stay away from his ears for a successful meeting! He’s friendly when it comes to meeting new pups, as long as they are respectful of his space. His lack of vision makes him a little more cautious compared to a pup with normal eyesight.
Charley is not a big barker and shows no signs of separation anxiety. He is perfectly fine being left alone and spends his days moving from dog bed to dog bed and taking naps.

Vetting
In our care, Charley has received all of the following: Vet Check, 1 or more Vaccines, Dental Exam, Medication (permanent – like for seizure treatment), Skin treatments/ infections, Nails Trimmed, Flea Treatments, Heart Worm testing and medication
Charley is on a daily medication that he takes twice a day to help out with his arthritis. He suffered from frequent untreated ear infections in the past. He requires consistent ear cleanings now to keep everything good. His vision is limited and his hearing is fairly limited. He doesn’t let any of this stop him from being a sweet and loving pup. He will make an incredible addition to his forever family.

Meet Senior Dachshund Charley – 11 yrs, 17 lbs.
Charley is good on leash and absolutely loves going for walks! When he gets excited for a walk or gets excited to be outside in the yard, Charley does the cutest little gallop around. He thrives in the backyard, so an adopter with a fenced in backyard would be ideal for this little guy. His foster family keeps his walks short because Charley’s legs and back are not the best, but he absolutely loves the time he gets exploring around the neighborhood. This fella is both independent and charming at the same time. Though he isn’t a big cuddler, he is a friendly fella who is sure to keep you entertained. He is hoping for a fenced yard. Adoption fee $200
If you believe you could provide a safe and loving forever home for this dog, please fill out an application with the dogs’ name on it.
*Be advised, we have a couple of volunteers processing hundreds of applications. We are unable to call everyone back as we do not have ANY employees. Our dedicated volunteers and foster parents will check references of the applications that appear to be a good match. At that time, if you are chosen, we will contact you to arrange a home visit.
The adoption fee helps to cover costs, as each dog is fully vetted, and treated, as needed to prepare them to move forward in their new life. You pay no fee unless you are chosen to adopt.
