Meet Gustav! Dachshund Mix Gustav is 12 years old, approximately 26 pounds, and ready to find his forever family! Lovingly nicknamed “Gussie” by his foster family, this mellow senior pup is searching for a forever home to spend his golden years in.

Gustav gets along well with other small dogs but he is not the biggest fan of dogs who are bigger than him so a home without bigger dogs would be ideal for him. He does not mind being around cats and just ignores them when he sees them, so he would do fine in a home with cats. He has not been around children since coming to the rescue, so we are unsure how he would do in a home with children but we think he would do well with older children who are respectful of dog boundaries.
He does well on leash but can get a little distracted on walks- he is quite the adventurer and just wants to see and smell everything. He is house-broken and uses the doggy door at his foster home to go outside when he needs to. He is crate trained and doesn’t mind being crated at all when it is needed. He has shown no signs of food or toy aggression while in his foster home and he is not a big barker.
Gustav likes lounging around on the dog bed and spends his nights on the dog bed, but he would likely love to share the big bed and some cuddles with his forever family too. Gustav enjoys car rides so much, sometimes a little too much as he won’t want to get out of the car once he gets home! He does well when meeting new people and new pups.

He shows no signs of separation anxiety and doesn’t mind spending some time apart from his humans. When his humans are home, he will walk over and ask for attention when he wants it. Once he feels he’s had enough attention, he’ll just walk right back over to his dog bed til he’s ready for some more.

Dachshund Mix Gustav – 12 yrs, 26 lbs.
Over time, Gustav has gotten more and more comfortable with his foster family and asking for attention and spending time with them. He came from a home that he shared with fourteen other dogs, so he wasn’t used to getting much attention until he came to the rescue and he’s still getting used to it. His foster parents share that he does the cutest little “doggy dance” when he gets excited to see his people! Gustav is worth the patience it takes to get to know him as he settles in. He has a lot of love to give and hopes the right person or family will come soon! Adoption fee $150
If you believe you could provide a safe and loving forever home for this dog, please fill out an application with the dogs’ name on it.
*Be advised, we have a couple of volunteers processing hundreds of applications. We are unable to call everyone back as we do not have ANY employees. Our dedicated volunteers and foster parents will check references of the applications that appear to be a good match. At that time, if you are chosen, we will contact you to arrange a home visit.
The adoption fee helps to cover costs, as each dog is fully vetted, and treated, as needed to prepare them to move forward in their new life. You pay no fee unless you are chosen to adopt.
