Meet Adoptable Mix Tanner! This little guy is 6 years old and weighs only 4 pounds. He is the biggest sweetheart who loves being picked up, cuddled, and having his belly rubbed!
Tanner does well with other small dogs, although most of the small dogs he has met are significantly bigger than him! We aren’t too sure how he would do with medium and large dogs as he hasn’t been around any since coming to the rescue. We are also not sure how he would do with cats or children as he hasn’t been around either since coming to the rescue. Due to how small he is, we would recommend a home without children as a precautionary measure. Ideally, a home with another small dog would be great for him!
Tanner enjoys his walks and does great on leash. He is house-trained and will let you know when he needs to go outside. He is crate-trained as well. He will initially be upset when placed in the crate, but settles down pretty quickly and has no issues the remainder of his time in. Although he misses his people quite a lot when they leave, he is always so excited when they come back! Tanner can resource guard high value items such as treats and toys when other dogs come around, so it is important for his adopter to know this and be willing to work on it and take necessary precautions so there aren’t any issues between him and other pups. For Tanner, growling at other dogs who come near him when he has a high value item is his form of resource guarding. He can also be quite the barker, but this is pretty typical for the chihuahua breed.
Vetting
In our care, Tanner has received all of the following: Vet Check, 1 or more Vaccines, Dental Exam, Spay or Neuter, Nails Trimmed, Major Dental (cleaning and removal)
Tanner is a healthy little guy with just one catch- he has no teeth! When he came to the rescue, his teeth were in really bad shape and he ended up needing all the teeth he still had removed. As a result of him not being able to chew the same way most dogs can, he does require wet food for each meal.

Tanner likes using the dog beds throughout the house but he loves spending his nights with his humans in the big bed! A home that allows him to continue spending his nights cuddled up in the big bed will be ideal for this little guy. He also loves being outdoors and would love a fenced in yard and lots of outside time in his forever home. He enjoys car rides, especially when he can be on someone’s lap for them. He’s pretty friendly when meeting new people and pups, though it can sometimes take him a few minutes to really warm up to a new person. He can be pretty shy at first, but has the sweetest little personality once he opens up to someone. Adoption fee $250

*Be advised, we have a couple of volunteers processing hundreds of applications. We are unable to call everyone back as we do not have ANY employees. Our dedicated volunteers and foster parents will check references of the applications that appear to be a good match. At that time, if you are chosen, we will contact you to arrange a home visit.
The adoption fee helps to cover costs, as each dog is fully vetted, and treated, as needed to prepare them to move forward in their new life. You pay no fee unless you are chosen to adopt.
