Adoptable Dachshund Axel – Low Rider Dachshund Rescue of Florida

Meet Adoptable Dachshund Axel! At 7 months old and approximately 12 pounds, little dachshund Axel is on the search for his forever home. He is the sweetest, happiest, most curious little puppy who will add so much love into the lives of his forever family!

Axel has done great with other small dogs! He’s initially a little cautious but once he gets his sniffs in, he is totally fine with them. We are unsure how he would do with dogs significantly bigger than him as he has not been exposed to bigger dogs since coming to the rescue. He also does well with cats! While he would like to play with them, he is very respectful of the cues the cats give him to stop. Axel will do best in a home without any children.

Adoptable Dachshund Axel

Axel loves his walks and does pretty good on leash! Since he is so young, he could use some additional leash training as he does like to pull to try and chase squirrels or to grab a stick he sees. He is almost fully house-trained as his foster family has been working so hard to get him there. We can expect some accidents in a new environment, but overall he does understand the concept of needing to go outside and he has done extremely well with this in his foster home. He is crate trained and does fine in the crate when his people leave the house. He does not prefer to be in the crate when his people are home as he feels like he’s missing out! A playpen or baby gates may be a good idea for his future family to try utilizing if they need to keep him contained to one area throughout the day while they are home.

At 7 months old, Axel does still have many puppy behaviors such as chewing on things he shouldn’t if not supervised, wanting to dig holes in the yard, etc. It will be important for his future adopter to understand that they will have to do further training with him to help him become the best dog that he can be. It will be so worth it though!

Axel loves sleeping in the big bed with his humans. He sleeps well throughout the night as long as he has gotten adequate exercise throughout the day. As a puppy, it is very important for him to continue getting daily exercise and mental stimulation. He has not shown food or toy aggression while in his foster home.

At this time, car rides are still pretty scary for little Axel but we think he would do better with car rides in time especially if he gets to go on some fun adventures with his forever family. He is friendly when meeting new people after being cautious for a minute or so and he is the same way with meeting new dogs. He shows some signs of separation anxiety when first being left alone, but this can be worked on over time.

Vetting

In our care, he has received all of the following: Vet Check, Nails Trimmed, Heart Worm testing and medication. If you can assist with our ongoing vetting expenses, it is greatly appreciated. *This does not affect adoption applicant choices as our job is to find the best fit for each dog, but we appreciate the help.

Adoptable Dachshund Axel is hoping for a home where his people want to let him sleep in the big bed with them! He has been tolerant of cats and gets along well with other small dogs. This puppy will need good exercise and stimulation as he grows. His training is coming along nicely, but he still exhibits some puppy behavior so patience and some consistent training is needed. He’s looking for his forever family, are you the right fit for him? Adoption fee $400
