I was presented with a lovely line-up of quality dogs for Best In Show, from which I selected
O’Connell’s RIJOBEAU RITA BIX WITH LLENNOCOR.
This compact, well-balanced, correctly constructed black and tan Miniature Smooth caught
my eye on the initial circuit of the ring and did not disappoint on further examination. On the
table my hands just flowed over her. She excels in forequarter construction, having well laid
shoulders with a good length of upper arm and consequently correct forechest. Her neck
flows seamlessly into her firm backline which was held in stance and on the move. Good
overall body shape with sweeping underline and pleasing spring of rib. Well angulated
hindquarters complete the picture. She covered the ground well in profile, holding her
topline at all times and moved with animation and style to take Best In Show. I see she is
sired by a dog I have previously awarded a CC, Ch. Ayseebee Rumour Has It and he has
passed on many of his attributes to his daughter.
Reserve Best In Show went to Starkey’s CARPACCIO MAGNUM PI AT HAMOURA
Impressive all-male black and tan Smooth, presented in gleaming condition. On top form
today, he strode out round the ring, full of himself, with head held high. Another with correct
conformation. He has a strong, masculine head with correctly shaped dark eye, reachy neck
flows into well placed shoulders. Firm backline and flowing underline. Good spring of rib.
Moderately angulated behind. He has slimmed down since I last had the opportunity to
judge him back in the summer and looks better for it! Stands true at both ends and moves
freely and confidently in profile.
For Best Puppy In Show there was another pleasing line-up of promising youngsters all at
different stages of development. A close decision here between the Wire and Smooth with
the Wire, Phillips’ TENDROW RUBENS HAGRID emerging as Best Puppy In Show.
Happy-go-lucky shaded red attending his first show, and completely at ease in the noisy hall.
He has a well-balanced outline and a head to die for. At just 6 months he still needs to
tighten in fore and hind movement coming and going, but displayed free profile movement
with the odd burst of puppy galloping! Correct texture coat which was well presented. He
has a strong, well proportioned, masculine head with dark eyes, correct mouth with powerful
jaw. Good length of neck flowing into well placed shoulders. Pleasing overall body shape.
Looked a picture standing and has lovely bone and substance throughout.
Reserve Best Puppy In Show – Halsall & Hughes’ SCIPSAR JUST GIVE ME A REASON
This lovely-natured 10 month, brindle smooth has really matured since I last judged him in
the summer. He has developed in body and is more balanced as a result. Elegant overall
outline with reachy neck, flowing into well laid shoulders with good length of upper arm and
forechest. Firm, level topline held in stance and profile movement. Moderately angulated hindquarters to complete the picture. Racier overall outline than the Wire with not quite as much bone. Moved freely, displaying his good conformation and confident temperament. Will take a while to reach full maturity I think. Has much to offer.
AV Veteran (10, 2 abs)
This class of cherished, golden-oldies was a pleasure to judge.
1st Paskins’ CEDAVOCH IT’S TABOO AT KINDEACE
Impressive, totally masculine Long who commanded attention on the first circuit of the ring.
Only just a veteran at 7 years. In fabulous condition and beautifully presented. Eye-
catching overall outline which he holds at all times in stance and profile movement.
Attractive masculine head with keen, alert expression. Good reach of neck flowing into well
laid shoulders. He has a strong, level backline and well angulated hindquarters. Powered
round the ring in profile with good length of stride. Best Veteran In Show.
2nd Norton’s CH. MATZELL MARTHA
Beautiful, feminine Smooth with lengthy, elegant outline. She also moved out freely in
profile, retaining her shape and covered the ground with ease. Very pleasing to go over on
the table where everything fits and flows seamlessly. Attractive feminine head carried on
reachy neck, well laid shoulders, good forechest, overall body shape and spring of rib.
Quality bitch and easy to see why she is a Champion.
