Adoptable mix Edwin gets along well with other dogs. He has a foster sibling (a mini dachshund) and they get along great! In addition, Edwin enjoys hanging out with the neighbor dogs while out on daily walks.
Edwin has some hearing loss so he is tentative when meeting new people, but he warms up pretty quickly. We take him to pet friendly restaurants and retail stores and he has not had any problems making friends with everyone he meets!
When he first meets someone, he can be a little shy. Since he doesn’t hear well, he startles when you come up from behind him and pulls back if people try to reach for him too quickly. Edwin does better when he can see people approaching him.
He has not been around big dogs very much. There are several large dogs in the neighborhood, and if/when they get near him during walks, Edwin does not bark or act aggressive. It is unknown as to how he responds to cats. He has not shown signs of food or toy aggression.
Edwin is great around children 10 years or older. He was very tolerant of fosters grandson (who is 12 yrs. old, high spectrum autistic, and non-verbal) during a 2 week visit. In fact, he enjoys attention from people of all ages!
Edwin loves car rides (and golf cart rides) – no carsickness at all! He’s a good little buddy and well behaved on outings.
Edwin is definitely an active Senior. He loves taking walks – he’s so happy he actually prances whenever we head out on one of our many daily walks… and he will even go out for walks when it’s drizzling!
He walks great on a leash – alone or with other dogs! However, I wouldn’t recommend using a retractable leash for his safety – he has some hearing loss and could wander into the path of a car without even realizing it.
House trained and crate trained, once adjusted in his foster home, he didn’t have any accidents. His fosters have not had a need to contain him in a crate but he will go in with the door open and travels well in the crate.
Edwin sleeps with his foster sibling and his foster parents in bed – he loves to cuddle! Edwin sleeps through the night and does not need to get up to go outside. We get up at 7 am for a morning walk…and if anyone is still in bed when he gets back, he’ll go right back to bed! We also have dog beds in several areas throughout the house and he makes himself comfortable in all of them.
In our care they have received: Vet Check, Dental Exam, Medication (temporary – like for acute infection), Medication (permanent – like for seizure treatment), Minor Surgery (such as removal of benign cyst), Nails Trimmed, Flea Treatments, Heart Worm testing and medication, Major Dental (cleaning and removal).
Edwin has been diagnosed with Endocardiosis and needs to take Vetmedin 2.6 mg chewable tablets daily for the rest of his life. The cost is approximately $86.00 for 50 tablets (dosage: give 1/2 tablet twice a day). Edwin requires soft food because he had to have 16 teeth removed.
Every dog who is rescued by Low Rider is fully vetted and receives the care they need to gain a new “leash” on life! If you can assist with vetting expenses, it is greatly appreciated!
Adoptable Mix Edwin – 12 yrs, 13 lbs.
Edwin may be a Senior, but he’s young at heart! When he plays with toys, he’ll toss them up in the air so he can catch them – so dang cute! He loves going for car/golf cart rides and taking walks. Edwin can hardly wait to get his leash on so he can get out the door. When he’s not riding or walking, he likes to be near (or at least within sight) of his humans…and he loves to cuddle – with you or your other fur babies! Adoption fee $150
If you believe you could provide a safe and loving forever home for this dog, please fill out an application with the dogs’ name on it.
*Be advised, we have a couple of volunteers processing hundreds of applications. We are unable to call everyone back as we do not have ANY employees. Our dedicated volunteers and foster parents will check references of the applications that appear to be a good match. At that time, if you are chosen, we will contact you to arrange a home visit.
The adoption fee helps to cover costs, as each dog is fully vetted, and treated, as needed to prepare them to move forward in their new life. You pay no fee unless you are chosen to adopt.
