Adoptable Mix Gunner has an outgoing, fun-loving personality but is not aggressive. He likes other dogs, both big and small. His affinity for cats has not been tested but he is very interested in squirrels, birds, and lizards. We’d say he has an active prey drive!
Gunner is good with children and likes them. He would do best with kids over 10 but has not had issues being around younger ones. It’s important that they be supervised, especially with very young children, not only for the sake of the children, but because a dachshund who is nearing the age of “senior” could easily suffer a spinal injury due to an overactive toddler.
He walks well on the leash, however, needs continued socialization to new experiences such as other walkers, loud noises, new items like garbage cans. He is not overly reactive, just hesitant at first.
Gunner has had no accidents in foster care. He has a good routine and will indicate a need outside of regular schedule if occasion should arise. Gunner is house trained and has had no need for a crate, but it has been reported that he hates them!
Sleeping in bed with humans is not really his thing. He loves his dog bed and enjoys hanging out there for naps and nighttime. He rides well in the car, at least on fairly short drives.
Gunner is not food or toy aggressive but is highly food motivated and lacking in manners when it comes to food! However, he has responded well to gentle redirection and training. Now he takes treats gently out of a hand with command of “nicely” and knows not to bother foster brothers if he finishes his food first, which he always does! We recommend monitored feeding with other dogs in the home, especially at first. Gunner has a loud doxie voice and would not be suitable for apartment living. He is easily distracted by street noises.
In our care he has received: Vet Check, 1 or more Vaccines, Dental Exam, Medication (temporary – like for acute infection), Skin treatments/ infections, Flea Treatments, Heart Worm testing and medication.
Adoptable Mix Gunner – 9 yrs, 14 lbs.
Gunner is a diamond in the rough! He absolutely loves his people and loves to snuggle. He is very happy to be next to you or on your lap in our favorite chair. Considering all the changes he’s been through, he is an even-tempered happy pup. Gunner has a doxie voice and isn’t afraid to use it. He has just the right amount of spunk and laid back attitude. Gunner will play with toys and loves to play chase with either his humans or foster brothers but also settles quickly, happy to burrow under the blanket or on your lap. Gunner is not a flight risk but a bit of a “wanderer” having been used to that life style. He doesn’t necessarily need a yard but would enjoy one that is safe and secure. Adoption Fee $200

*Be advised, we have a couple of volunteers processing hundreds of applications. We are unable to call everyone back as we do not have ANY employees. Our dedicated volunteers and foster parents will check references of the applications that appear to be a good match. At that time, if you are chosen, we will contact you to arrange a home visit.
The adoption fee helps to cover costs, as each dog is fully vetted, and treated, as needed to prepare them to move forward in their new life. You pay no fee unless you are chosen to adopt.
