Adoptable Mix Pepper enjoys other dogs of all sizes and is fine with cats too. He is also good with children both younger and older.
Pepper is not fond of wearing a harness and isn’t accustomed to leash walking. He does fine wearing a collar with a tag, but will need a safely fenced yard to roam in. His foster mommy says he does the “alligator roll” when you try to add a leash and harness. A slip leash can be used when taking him to the vet or for transporting. Speaking of transporting, he does not enjoy the ride!
The great news is that Pepper is fully house-trained. He has even been known to brave rainy weather to do his business outside, unlike most dachshunds we know!
Although crates make him howl, he is so well-behaved, he hasn’t needed to be crated. He hangs out in the house and is a very good boy! He has only shown anxiety over the leash, car rides, and the crate. Fortunately, he is such a well-behaved dog, it makes up for his fearful reactions (anxiety) in those situations.
Pepper sleeps independently in his own dog bed or hanging out in the living room. He isn’t big on being picked up but is very happy to hang out with you and other dogs in the home or yard.
In our care he has received: Vet Check, Dental Exam, Medication (temporary – like for acute infection), Heart Worm testing and medication, Major Dental (cleaning and removal).
Pepper was confiscated from his owners so, given his difficult past, he has responded amazingly well to an entirely new sort of living situation. After several days of fear and uncertainty (mainly with the crate) he settled in very well with the other Doxies and picked out a great dog bed under the desk.
Adoptable Mix Pepper – 12 yrs, 27 lbs
He is so sweet! He is submissive so he lets another dog take a toy away from him or shove him off his bed. He’s easy going like that….. Walking on a leash is clearly something he was never used to so a fenced yard works well for him. He may respond to leash walking in time. He’s great with small kids ( even toddlers ) and indifferent to cats. He doesn’t seem to hear very well. He would be wonderful with a person who is retired or works from home. He isn’t a high energy dog or a lap dog, just a nice in between good company dog. Adoption fee $150
If you believe you could provide a safe and loving forever home for this dog, please fill out an application with the dogs’ name on it.
*Be advised, we have a couple of volunteers processing hundreds of applications. We are unable to call everyone back as we do not have ANY employees. Our dedicated volunteers and foster parents will check references of the applications that appear to be a good match. At that time, if you are chosen, we will contact you to arrange a home visit.
The adoption fee helps to cover costs, as each dog is fully vetted, and treated, as needed to prepare them to move forward in their new life. You pay no fee unless you are chosen to adopt.
